About
Shirley did not seriously pursue a career in fine art until she retired from the telecommunications industry, but she has spent the last fifteen years actively enhancing her skills. She has discovered that her passion is plein air painting and now spends one to two weeks a year painting in an advanced group with Richard McKinley, PSA-MP, and HFP.
Shirley is a versatile artist who works with acrylics, oils, and pastels. Her paintings are representational, and she focuses on landscapes across the United States. Shirley’s work has been accepted in juried exhibits in seven states. Shirley also performs demonstrations for art groups and teaches workshops in the Arkansas area. Shirley is one of the Charter Members of the Arkansas Pastel Society and served as President (2006-2007). She is a Signature Member of the Arkansas Pastel Society, a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the West Coast, and a Signature Member of the Pastel Society of the Southwest. Shirley is an Associate member of the PastelSociety of America. She was elected to the Board of Directors for the International Association of Pastel Societies in June 2017 and currently serves as the Exhibition Chair. Shirley was one of four owners of Gallery 726 in Hot Springs, Arkansas, from May 2009 until April 2013.
